rainy Monday morning

oh heyyy!
I'm killing time on my first weekday morning living with the Ley's.

This weekend was very good! Saturday night after the dinner party, Laura called and wanted to go get coffee because she was dying to speak English, so we met up at the U-Bahn station near her, at Adenauerplatz, and got cappuccinos and talked about our families. That all required me braving the U-Bahn for the first time by myself--I survived! Yesterday we all slept in and then had a late breakfast/early lunch out on the terrace, and it was a gorgeous day so that was really nice. I spent most of the day with Naomi, my host sister. She took me to the Mitte (the "middle", an area of town in, you guessed it, the middle of the city) and we practiced taking the subway and also got lunch at this really really cool restaurant that served indinaeische (i think that's what she called it) food which is like, south Asian/Asian islands food. What she ordered for me was very similar to the vermicelli bowls we get at Saigon Gourmet, but even yummier. And instead of getting water or a soda with the meal, you get a smoothie/shake thing (mine was pineapple and coconut milk) which tastes surprisingly amazing with the food.

This morning I had to go to the police station and turn in my Anmeldung, which is the process by which people become recognized as living in Berlin. You have to do it within a week of coming here, even if you're just staying here for a somewhat short period of time like me and not moving here for good. It was pretty easy, much easier since Jutta came with me. She showed me the S-Bahnhof, or the S-Bahn station, that would be the fastest way for me to go to school. The S-Bahn is like the U-Bahn (subway) but it's above ground. Now I'm back here waitin' to leave for class, which won't be for awhile because my 12 o'clock class got cancelled for the day so I don't have to leave till 1:15ish.

Well I was going to try to put pictures on here but something is not working right. So I'll put some up next time.

Hi my Manda-mands!! I'm sooo excited you decided to create a blog, and I'm so proud you figured it all out in German. It is cool to see because some is German, some is English. Sounds like you're already having an amazing time - and your host family sounds cool (so does their pad). We miss you around here already and can't wait to see more pics. Have fun and take care of yourself!! Love you lots and lots, Rain, Abigayla & Eric
